Witty and funny and creepy and honestly just a great axe-wielding time. I especially love that I had no idea where the story was going for most of the book, and was just along for the ride. One of the blurbs said it was gonna be the weirdest book I read all year. It wasn’t (that award goes to Earthlings by Sayaka Murata without a doubt), but it was definitely very trippy. I think it had kind of similar vibes to the Netflix show Brand New Cherry Flavor. If you, like me, really really wish Carmen Maria Machado would write a full-length novel, then this book is for you.

A bitingly satirical evaluation of female friendship and the echo chamber of academic elitism turns into a ‘what-the-f***’ horror-thriller that boggles just as it enthrals.

Demented, feverish, and just plain strange, Bunny forcibly blends Mean Girls with Jennifer's Body into a bloody, satirical tale about cults, cliques, academia, repression, and internalized misogyny. You can either reject the novel because of its excessive animal symbolism and juvenile main character or tumble down the rabbit hole in a blurry, imaginative frenzy that leaves you dazed long after you read it.

The best way I can describe this book is if Heathers and Doki Doki Literature Club had a love child, and you and that love child got high together. Reading it feels like an acid trip in the best way.

The setting of Warren University is the perfect backdrop for a story like this, and Awad gives an excellent description of a seemingly picturesque facade that is much more sinister after a closer look - a concept that many students at prestigious universities understand all too well! Samantha is not meant to be particularly likeable, and I like that her pretentious, holier-than-thou mindset is called out in a way that also calls out every “I’m not like other girls” main character ever. The ending seemed to come out of absolutely nowhere but there are clever elements of foreshadowing throughout that make sense only when the pieces are put together at the end.
