I love the two levels of this book. The lesson abt schooling that you can only hope someone hears but also those funny pictures! The dog is hilarious and I love the squirrel reading nut weekly but my fave was the locker scene. Read some of those book titles. Fun.

For my first literacy lesson plan of the semester, I chose A Fine, Fine School and the focus skill of making and confirming predictions.
This is a story about Tillie and her school’s principal, Mr. Keene, who increases school days for his “fine, fine” school to include Saturdays, and then Sundays, and then holidays, and then summer, much to the chagrin of the teachers and students. It provides a lesson on the theme of "too much of a good thing can make it unpleasant."
I love Sharon Creech's poetry chapter books, and her flare for rhythm is on display here in the lilting, repetitive narrative and dialogue. Illustrations by Harry Bliss are soft and rounded, putting the reader into that idyllic elementary school setting.

This book was super annoying. The story line was good, but the writing was the annoying part. I hated having to repeat "fine, fine ____" over and over on every page! I will not be reading this one to my students again.

One of my favorite read-alouds for kids of all grades! Principal Keen loves the school, the kids, the teachers so much, he just wants more school! More school on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays - summer break - more school! Until one day a student tells him her brother can't learn to skip and she herself can't learn to sit in her tree with all the school, all the time.

My school principal read this aloud last year during the book fair. A fun, humorous story with a lesson about priorities and finding that perfect balance in life.
