It was bad.
The book obviously needs professional editing, because all the typos and errors made it annoying to read.
Other than that the characters weren’t good at all. Not a single one of them, to be honest.
The book could be way better if the author put more time and patience into the process of writing it.

Don’t recommend it to anybody.

I have mixed feelings. There are parts that were very good…emotional, tense, really inspiring a lot of feelings and investment. And then there were other parts where I didn’t really care for the MCs, one in particular, and didn’t really care if they got their HEA or not.

The book does a good job pointing out the issues that veterans have transitioning to civilian life and how difficult it is and how hard for those who haven’t been in the situation to understand. That makes Troy a more sympathetic character. I could feel for him and his difficulties.

It’s not as easy with Dmitri. He’s a veterinarian but in research rather than direct animal care. He is self centered and has shut himself off from others. But we have no rationale as to why. He has a great best friend but no other real friends. His family loves him. His parents are supportive. All we know is he’s drowning in debt from buying his parents house and his student loans. But that doesn’t explain his emotional issues. He is therefore much harder to like or understand or root for.

The crisis moment is tense and brings things to a head in an emotional and ultimately productive way. The ending is hopeful. So overall it is an ok, leaning towards good read but I feel like it could have been better.

So, the characters' stories are interesting. the problem is the writing, especially in the beginning: there are some parts where the wrong name is used and it was obvious it was meant the other one, as the sentence didn't make any sense otherwise. Sometimes I had no idea who's pov it was or who was talking, but after the initial part, it gets more comprehensible.
I would have liked to know more about the after, like once they make up with each other, there's the epilogue and end. Some more information would have been more appreciated.

Don’t love the genre.
Didn’t much like the MCs.
Plus, typos and sex.

Dmitri and Troy are fighting different battles. Dmitri - keep his head above water with debt and a couple other issues. Troy - adjusting to civilian life after 6 years in the military and suffering from PTSD. They meet through a mutual friend and it sparks a flame neither man thought could be lit.

The story itself is good and I really like the portrayal of Troy and his adjustment to finally admitting to his PTSD. Dmitri was kind of a selfish jerk and at one point I really didn't like him but then I realized that he resonated with what some people go through after realizing their significant other is suffering from PTSD. He makes it very real so as much as I wanted to hit him upside the head, I couldn't (well, aside from the fact that he is a fictional character).

I bought the paperback of this book so just a warning - this version isn't edited well. The ebook has been edited though.

I loved this story, from the very first meeting to the camping trip, to every angry moment. Dimitri and Troy are two vets, one a veteran, one a veterinarian, who have a love worth fighting for and a story worth telling. The secondary characters are great and I can't wait to read QT's story.

DNF @ 7%.

AE Wasp is a new-to-me author and if this is the level of editing that can be expected, this will be a doomed relationship. There have been so many wonky sentences and I only made it to Chapter 2. And there is no break to indicate a switch in POV. The story seems cute, but I can't excuse such poor editing.

Niggling errors stop this from having a higher rating

One thing which irritates and is relatively easy to check, is that you're referring to your character by the right name.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few such errors in this, along with typos and the wrong tense being used in a sentence, and that is what stops me giving it a higher rating.

This is a real shame as there are a lot of great things going for this book. The main characters aren't perfect by a long stretch and they have real world issues that are both believable and treated well, switching from the adrenalin rush of early relationship fears and lusts, through to the emotional connection which comes when feelings get deeper.

The secondary characters were also a big plus point, well grounded in reality and acting in a completely believable way.
The cover is a beautiful work of art though.

I really enjoyed this! It's humorous without being "wacky", serious without being melodramatic, weighty without being preachy. The characters felt real, like actual human beings. They reacted like actual human beings. Troy and Dmitri were sweethearts. I really liked both of them. I liked Angel, though it was a little confusing and she seems to have magical transportation powers because she managed to help both of them get ready for their first date and no one was late. I liked the little we saw of Dmitri's parents. I wish we would've seen more of Troy with his family, and even his coming out. I think Troy's PTSD was handled well, if a little too smoothly. I noticed a few typos here and there but nothing too major. Over all this was a sweet happy read.
