I had to write a review for this collection (Cubs in Toyland). It is just as good as all the others, but so much more depressing. I have read #19, and I feel like #18 signals a much darker/more depressing turn for the series. I just kept saying WHY? NO!!!! the entire series.

OH MY GOD. This was so good, but in a horrible, knife-in-gut twisting way. Do not read this if you want to relax, because you will be tense the whole way through. This is the best Fables volume in quite awhile, easily.

I wasn't expecting that...well I was because of events that happened earlier on in the story but damn that got dark! Fast too! Really well done! Looking forward to how the next volume will turn out.

Almost a five star shocker what with the events that come to pass from the prophecy that was revealed in the last book. The one issue stories at the end exemplify why Fables can go on and on. They are the reason this comic book has such a fresh new life even after almost ten years. The little just so stories and fresh inventive children's tales are short engaging, beautifully rendered tales in their own right.

So Fables doesn't always take the easy way out by giving everyone happy endings. That being said, this one was a lot darker than I expected. Damn, no one was messing around when it came to this storyline.

This volume solely focuses on the cubs and Bigby. It is brutal and visceral and sad but that doesn't mean I didn't love it. The art (as usual) is amazing, the storytelling is brilliant and the plot is great. I don't like how some of the characters ended up at the end of the book but I don't alwasy get what I want. Even after 18 volumes this continues to be the best series ever written. I'm starting to slow down reading these because I realize I only have four left so I want to savor them as long as possible.

Highest possible recommendation.

well at least there was finally a reference to dorothy? a mean spirited one that ignores every oz book but the first but it was there? and mentioning her name is more than the series has bothered to do so far?

yeah whatever, the story was okay too but every review here will tell you about it; i'm going to keep on calling willingham out on his dorothy erasure until he fixes it

The artwork is still fantastic, but less enthused by the overall story.

Another good installment about Snow White and Bigby Wolf's cubs, and oh, a sad one. As with the last graphic novel collection, this ends on a note that leaves me anxious for more.
