wasn’t sure what to expect but this audiobook had great reviews on audible and it did not disappoint. It was so funny and wonderfully weird. I connected with a lot of her experiences on mental health and I appreciated her being so open about her journey. She also describes well what it’s like to live with invisible disabilities and the fight for mental and general healthcare as a disabled person. It was funny and so much fun to listen to!

The best choice to read while recovering from COVID. I laughed, I cried, I finally learned the true meaning of the chicken-crossing-the-road joke, and felt better about humankind.

I related to a lot of the themes in this book but wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style. Lawson writes very conversationally - bordering on stream of consciousness- so I see why it’s very popular, but it’s just not something I’m super fond of. There are sections when she talks about mental illness and her feelings where I feel like she’s describing exactly how I feel, but then it was usually followed by a filler chapter that I assume is to lighten the mood, but I could have done without.

This is my first read by Lawson, but I understand it is here third memoir. It took me a bit to get into and get used to her frame of mind. Her writing feels scrambled if you look at it as a whole, but digging deeper you understand the stream of thoughts. I found this interesting, if a little hard to follow at times. Lawson brings razor sharp wit to the experiences that are both individualistic and universal at the same time. I do feel I could have enjoyed this more if I was in a different headspace, but I still enjoyed it and think others will too.

I am in the minority, but I didn't connect well with Jenny Lawson's sense of humor. A lot of the jokes felt immature or like she was trying too hard to be quirky funny. There were absolutely parts that made me laugh, but a lot of times I wanted her to get to the point. She has some really poignant essays throughout, including her one focused on health insurance, but overall I felt like this tried too hard.

So many parts made me laugh out loud. The run on sentences were a struggle for me that made me take frequent breaks. I struggled with some chapters. Others were great. A real mixed bag for me. This very well may be attributable to my own personal experience as opposed to tye. Ok itself.

There were so many quotes I would have highlighted and bookmarked if this was my personal copy I read and not an audiobook I borrowed from Libby. The way Jenny Lawson discusses and approaches mental illness with just the right amount of humor and gentleness was entertaining and relatable. Jenny Lawson's descriptions and personal anecdotes about mental health are the most honest and relatable depictions I've read so far. This audiobook may have made me cry on my way to work once because it was that relatable to my personal experiences. She approaches mental illness with the reminder that it will get better, you have overcame periods of depression/anxiety before, and you will see the light again--I thought that was a beautiful reminder and way of looking at things. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it!!

There are a lot of CW/TWs regarding mental health so be sure to look them up!
