I enjoyed The Rookery and found it really interesting but I did not like it as much as Limelight. I felt like there were a lot of similarities that made it feel less creative and more like a writing formula was being followed to plot out the murders. I really would have liked to see it mixed up a bit more because it kind of made it too easy to figure out who the murder was. I will say that the motive was a surprise. It was intriguing and I'm definitely going to continue on with the series, but it definitely wanting more of a surprise with the mystery.

Enjoyable. Not quite as entertaining as the book one but I continue to enjoy Penelope Green's dynamic with Inspector James Blakley.

I was surprised by how intrigued I was by this book. I am not normally one for murder mysteries, but this was extremely well written and not too gorey or scary. I found myself following along and trying to figure out who the killer was! And it totally threw me a curve ball! I did not see it coming at all!

This was too slow for me and I didn't consistently like the main character.

I'm still enjoying this series a lot.

This time the mystery comes hand in hand with a serial killer and Penny is right in the middle of it from the beginning of the investigation. She is still working close to Inspector James Blakely from whom she might be feeling something more than friendship. Sadly, there is a future Mrs Blakely in James' life, so nothing can come from it.

I liked the mystery, it was very well done. But I also liked the social commentary that keeps going all through the book and the main arc about Penny's father. This last has some more 'screen-time in this book, and yes, I understand why Penny is distraught about what she found in her father's diary.

Oh, and I really like Penny's sister, too. Yes, even when she is always nagging her to get a husband :P

Going to the next book ASAP.

EDIT: Yep, still loving this series ♥

This was good. I liked the first book better, but the historical details are great. The book is well written. I will follow along in the series. This is a dark one though and isn’t as lighthearted and easy as some of this author’s other books. I do love Penny and James together and I hope their story comes together sooner rather than later.

This is not my favorite of the historical mystery series. I'm not connecting to the characters or stories. There's nothing wrong with it, but I probably won't be continuing with it.

The writing and dialogue are a little clunky, but this is a light, easy read with charming characters.
