“But in Acts 1, there is Mary, in the upper room, among the disciples. She has allowed herself to go on saying yes to the Holy Spirit, and to make her grief and pain a source of life and hope for others.”

This book was phenomenal to use through this last Advent season. The paintings included are helpful in slowing down and meditating. The devotionals are so beautiful written with great reflective questions and prayers. This is such a valuable and healing resource to use during Advent.

Each day in this Advent devotional revolves around a different piece of art. There is a wide range of styles, time periods and cultures represented in the works selected, but almost all are representational images, which I hope means it will be more accessible to a wide range of people. The devotional text was thought provoking, ending each day with two questions to ponder and a short prayer.

All images are fully printed in colour but  the book is very small and the it isn’t always possible to see details that are important to narrative of the painting. However, as a result of the size it’s very reasonably priced and if I needed to get a better look at the art I just searched for it online.

I will definitely  read some of the other books in the series.
