I adored this, the pacing was probably the best i’ve seen in a romance book. It wasn’t quick but it wasn’t slow to the point i didn’t care anymore. The rivalry was actually believable and i resonated in a couple ways with Natalie. Great way to start off 2022

The mc was a total idiot and so many things just didn’t make sense/weren’t explained.

I have to give the book that it made me laugh a few times. But I don’t think you should blow a third act problem in this dimension, because this is a serious trust issue, and not just some misunderstanding. I jumped to the ending and it didn’t seem like the problem got resolved in any meaningful way. Reid just crushed his audition, her dad was there and everything was fine and I don’t think that’s how you should just resolve the issue because it is a big issue in this relationship. And in the end it was like “I never hated you. I always liked you want to act like I hated you was the only way to be close to you.” I would like to read a enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers where both parties really hate each other, despise each other or something like that and then resolve this problem not to have something like “I liked you since the beginning.”

I don't know if I'm in some sort of reading slump or if I'm just overly mental tired at the moment. I was excited to read a book with theatre because it was one of the clubs, I was in at school and I loved it to pieces. But this book had me thinking about DNFing it a lot. I don't really know why though. I found the pacing to be ok, so maybe it was the characters I didn't exactly enjoy.

It's okay. The conflict is was too serious to be resolved so easily.

I really enjoyed As If On Cue. The combination of high school theater, band life, and arts was wonderful. The complex relationship the main character Natalie had with her enemy/romantic interest Reid was compelling, along with the relationships she had with her father and friends. I appreciated the included elements of Jewish culture and the reality of discrimination. The story of perusing art in the face of uncertainty was creative and powerful.
I wish there was more physical descriptions of the characters and setting so the reader could visualize more, and the ending was somewhat abrupt. I wanted more expansion and closure for the side characters, especially with the other art clubs. And Natalie’s actions were a bit overbearing at times. But overall it was a great read. I feel lucky I got the chance to read it for free during Riveted Lit’s December free reads.

Reid and Natalie have competed against each for years. When their childish prank war ramps up with some serious collateral damage, the two are forced to work together to develop Natalie’s play into a musical. In putting aside their differences for the greater good, the two begin to see one another in a new light. This book was a fun enemy-to-couple story.
