I read this book in 1 sitting, start to finish, and while the premise was interesting, the storyline ended up falling flat for me and wrapped up too quickly and neatly for me in the end.

I kept reading b/c I was so curious what happened. But my goodness. Author did a lot of research and chose to include it all I guess. Ended up - for me - being more of a travel guide of San Francisco and Costa Rica.

I couldn't put it down. Not sure how I feel about the ending... I would recommend this book.

This book was thoroughly absorbing from start to finish. It was actually my book club's selection for August's discussion and since I didn't finish the book on time and didn't want the ending ruined, I skipped going to the meeting and kept the book for an extra week instead to finish. Talk about enthralling. If you like Jodi Picoult or Diane Chamberlain (or other, similar authors) you will most likely love this book as well.

(3.5 stars if possible) This was a great light read. Intriguing story line that kept me interested. Parts of the book were a little dry, but the mystery kept me going. I enjoyed Abby's realistic inner-dialogue and relationship with Jake. Not a happy book, but not full-of-tears sad either.

After a few minutes of inattention, Abby's fiance's young daughter disappears while they're taking a walk on a beach in northern California. The year of the title refers to Abby's year as she searches for 6-year old Emma and tries to reconcile herself to the loss. I was fairly well captivated by the story, though it drug quite a bit in the last third. Had a problem with the ending, but no spoilers here.

I was disappointed by this book. While I thought it was a quick read, I just wish that we could have had some more closure. I feel like it got wrapped up too nicely.
