This book made me want to take a class on literary criticism so I could more adequately describe how it made me feel.

I said to a friend that the book made me feel less alone while reading it. The narrator is certainly at times unsympathetic but the thought process displayed is quite refreshing. Like the catastrophic neuroses on the page crowd out my ability to be neurotic myself while reading.

Very beautiful and there are certainly insightful parts where the narrator engages with art but as he says about poems: it’s not about anything.

Engaging and often poetic prose. A strange post-modern half-fever dream about the disconnect between language and self, self and self, etc. etc.

Very entertaining. Some day soon, Lerner is going to write a novel that blows our collective minds.

Was this book good or am I just also an American drinking and smoking a lot in a European country?
