I enjoyed myself throughout this one and I have no major complaints. The various nobles' names were hard to tell apart when they were all together in the thick of it, but I was so far in that I decided not to care and it didn't diminish my overall understanding.
Comparisons between this and The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn are obvious: they're both quite lengthy, vaguely Rennaissance-era fantasy heists starring a clever antihero and his bestie(s). Between the two, I find Ardor Benn much more fun so if you only have room in your life for one, I recommend that one. But if you don't mind the darker and sadder tones of this One Last Job gone sideways and can't get enough debonair con men, this gets the job done.

It is a flawed book however. The portrayal of women is poor. There are occasional homophobic slurs which are unacceptable. And there were some major plot holes, which included an overpowered magician, fights being won that should definitely have been lost and characters introduced who had no pay off at all.
Overall, an enjoyable read.
Graphic: Violence and Death
Minor: Homophobia

Spoiler
which made all the characters dying super fucking impactful lol. My heart for Bug and Nazca in particularI think I could have a 5 star in later books. The ending was satisfying but I am bummed the next book is obviously gonna be in a different place I had just gotten a handle on camorr lol. But this one took just a little too long to get me invested in the characters. Still a great bookk but not quite a 5.

It's a dark and violent stiry and doesn't recoil from that at all. It doesn't leave you reckoning with it really, just facing it and accepting it as part of the events.
