Some really interesting reflections on games prior to 2011. I couldn’t shake the few moments where the writers sexism was showing. Published 4 years before gamer gate these “meant to be funny” moments of comparing female Ubisoft employees to escorts or commenting on the joke at a conference about how easy it would be for female delegates to “get laid” or revoke their vaginas?! The book is subtitled “why games matter” and yet the final chapter details his time lost in GTAIV on copious amounts of cocaine.
I enjoyed aspects of this book but I can’t overlook the attitudes held.
