I enjoyed this book overall, and for me it's 3.5/5 stars.
Chronologically, this book starts in the months before Episode I: The Phantom Menace and then concludes at the end of The Phantom Menace. I wasn't expecting all the overlap.
The best part of the book to me was getting to see how Padme was behind the scenes and how her handmaidens and decoys came to be. It was fun to see her interact with other girls her age and sometimes act like the 14-year-old she was.
There were random points where we followed other characters from The Phantom Menace, and sometimes the snippets felt unnecessary and out of place. I assume they were there to help remind the reader what point of the story we're in because it does regularly time jump forward in the story without much warning. Still, if you haven't actually watched The Phantom Menace, I can't see the last half of this book making much sense.
Overall, I would recommend this book for Star Wars fans. The backstory for Padme was enjoyable!
