Thank you to the publisher and and NetGalley for the eARC.

I am so happy the audio book for this book was short, because wow I was not pleased. I never got to liking Elin, I found her so awful for the way she was treating her family. I get that her upbringing was awful too, but I don’t think her professed reasons for lying were that good or even well explained.

Really just not a fan of this story, but I do want to admit that the ending was sweet and hopeful in a way I did not expect from the rest of the book.

That was really lovely. Rich relationships and complicated characters, right up my alley.

I was SO intrigued by the title of this novel. I loved the idea of it and I think about it often. Can't believe I never realised it before!
The novel started brilliantly, and gripped me, but then I began to lose interest and wasn't as motivated to continue reading as I was at the start.
The dual timeline is a feature I love in novels, and I do feel this was done well. It just seemed that the plot slowed down a lot, and I wanted Fredrik's involvement to be much bigger, as well as Elin's secret. For it to have had such a major impact, I believe it should have been introduced earlier to the story.

If I could give 3.5 stars I would. It was easy to read, quick chapters which kept things moving. However, I just could not connect with the characters. I wanted to shake Elin and say "don't you see you're losing your family?!"- she was very aggravating.

The story switched between past and present throughout the whole novel and I have to admit I was more intrigued by the past storyline - I found present day Elin to be quite frustrating in her constant denial that anything was wrong. I loved the title of the book and it was a good book but it didn't really pull me in fully.

It was the title of the book that caught my eye. I was very intrigued but at the same time, realised that a question mark is half a heart! How have I never noticed this before!?

Elin's story is bittersweet and enjoyed the different POV's, all from Elin's but at different times in her life. I did feel it dragged a little at some points but my love for the book didn't waiver.

Thank you Netgalley and Sofia for allowing me to read this ARC!

Our past creates who we are as adults. Life is hard. Is it better to be open, honest, and in touch with ourselves and those who love us?
