The book is written well and I did enjoy it… However, in terms of pace, it was very slow and I found having the relationships as the focus instead of the plot immensely boring. It was rather like a magical version of Bridgerton but with an actual plot line, although thin. Character development was small and actual action minimal. The relationships were average and quite stereotypical. I appreciated the different ethnicities and representation, on the other hand, I feel it certainly could have been done better as there was a feeling of it not quite hitting the mark. There was a lot of world building but since it is set in familiar places, I feel this was unnecessary. Overall, I think it was fun to read and I do want to finish the series, albeit due to my inner gossip girl curiosity. This is also in spite of the title and concept being more exciting than the execution. I am in no rush to buy the next book. You would not be missing out if you skipped this one but it is an easy read to pass the time.

The pacing was a bit weird, especially at the end, and I would've loved to see more action after that first action scene in the beginning. Instead, there was mostly a lot of talking and thinking instead of doing tbh.
But apart from that I really enjoyed listening to this!! The audiobook and the different narrators are great, thanks to the voice actors! And I especially love Nico as a character, and his relationship to Gideon (which is probably meant to be a platonic, very deep friendship but tbh I do kind of ship it romantically).

I really enjoyed the world building, and the exploration of each character as individuals as well as their group dynamics. the perspective taking of the chapters was also interesting, and the narrators all added nuance to their performances in ways I appreciated (especially during internal monologues). unfortunately Part 6 definitely got too trigger heavy for me, and I found the expositions started to get both much longer and much less believable. not the book for me, unfortunately!
