66% in and I just couldn’t seem to care. I know most people love it, but it just wasn’t for men

Really interesting magic system and a similar but different telling of history - kind of like A Handmaid's Tale meets Hunger Games? That's not a great comparison, but I'm really looking forward to reading the next one!

this was terrible. for starters, why did parisa get more povs than reina when i think reina is the more interesting character. also, why the hell was the plot twist about atlas wanting to overthrow the society in order to make himself a god inserted in the second or third to last chapter in the book like i suspected something was up when dalton told parisa that he was confused on how he made the animation and also might've suspected that it was atlas mind controlling him. anyways, there are many deep flaws within the book but it's not the prose because if it's one thing olivie blake is talented at, it's writing beautiful, almost lyrical really, prose. the characters are insufferable and there's so much going on yet NOTHING is happening at the same time and it's frustrating to read. i probably won't read the sequel just in case it suffers from the same case of nothing yet everything is happening and characters that continue to hate each other with no character development in sight (okay i lied, there was some when libby was kidnapped by ezra).

This book was riveting from cover to cover.

I have been in a reading slump lately and hoped to mix things up from the longer epic fantasy series I had "scheduled". I went to the sci-fi/fantasy section of my nearby B&N and started reading some back of book covers to see what interested me, without looking at the Goodreads ratings as normal (to not be influenced or overlook a good book, as I usually only read over 4 stars because life is short).

I love knowledge as a theme and social deduction plots in stories, particularly where characters are flawed. The Atlas Six caught my attention in all of those regards and more. While the conflict premise is simple and obvious from the get-go, Olivie/Alexene adds many fantastic twists with her well-fleshed out characters and dialogues. This also appealed to my interests in science-based magic, given her real world derived explanations of the magics each initiate posesses.

It was a refreshing read and much welcomed. I will be picking up the sequel shortly to see where it goes from here.

I rarely have so many mixed feelings about a book.
There were times when I was fully enjoying myself while reading this and other times when I was either bored or so confused. The writing is just sort of confusing at parts and I’m not sure quite how to explain it. I will say, this book is intriguing and I will most likely by picking up the next book so I can hopefully get some answers!!
