Taltos. Lives Of The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice

Nowhere near as lush with Southern gothic horror as the first Mayfair Witch book, & entirely too much time spent with all the characters describing what they find irresistibly erotic about every other character, every other sentence. Interspersed are backstories, but again without the rich detail & emotion that made the first book interesting. And donā€™t get me started on the racism, sexism, ableism, problematic relationships between adults and childrenā€¦Glad this is the last book in the series.Ā

I enjoyed reading this more than I did Lasher, but this book is incredibly anticlimactic and essentially undoes everything that was done in the first two books making everything just kind ofā€¦ pointless.

Taltos has extremely well-developed and interesting characters, and more straight plot than is usual for Anne Rice. The Taltos are a "mythical" race of near-immortal demigods, the history and exploits of which are recorded by a sort of occult research Order known as the Talamasca, who are also aware of (Rice's) vampires and the Mayfair family of witches. In fact, the Mayfairs are related to the Taltos, deriving much of their psychic ability from that genetic line. The mating of Taltos and humans is a precarious affair at best, often resulting in madness or death, which the Mayfairs have had to deal with as a sort of family curse throughout their known lineage.

A very good read as expected! Was very descriptive per usual and makes you feel as though you know the characters and places personally..... I will miss my Mayfield Witches!

I highly recommend this trilogy!

"The third volume in the series featuring the Mayfair witches, following "The Witching Hour" and "Lasher". The Taltos are the spirits - immortal, dangerous and damned - from whom the Mayfairs derive their occult powers, and at whose mercy they are." (From Amazon)

I had to read the third book to see how it ends.

This is the third in the Mayfair witches series that began with The Witching Hour. While that book and it sequel, Lasher, were in the horror genre, Taltos ventures more into the realm of science fiction and fantasy. It was well written as are all of Anne Rice's novels, and I felt compelled to find out what happened to the characters from the earlier books, but I didn't find it as interesting or scary as the earlier books in the series. As in many of Rice's books it explored the thought-provoking themes of nature vs. nurture, free choice, good and evil.

Parts of the book are slow to get through and I wanted more out of the endingĀ
