Dear Gods, why did you let Rick make this book so atrocious? Genuinely. I'm so upset.

When I found out that Rick was finally releasing another PJatO, I audibly screamed on the top of my lungs. And when I found out it was written in first person, Percy's POV, I messy cried. This was quite possibly my most anticipated read of this year. And boy oh boy was it god awful.

The book feels weirdly nostalgic...but not in a good way. It really feels like Rick is just milking the series and pushing it. It's almost like its too nostalgic to the point of annoyance. There was also way to many 4th wall breaks that it was quirky anymore but extremely frustrating.

My biggest two issues with the book is the actual plot and then the pop culture references. First off, the story is stupid. It feels as if this plot was made for the book versus the book was made because the plot was there, if that makes sense. It feels so cultivated and out of place from the world. Why would Percy need three letter recommendations, but he can't ask for them, each of them he has to do different quests, if he does a quest within a quest then he still couldn't get them cause it was after the fact, and the only reason he has to have these three recommendation letters anyways is because Zeus just said so. So stupid.

And then secondly, WHY IS THERE SO MANY POP CULTURE REFERENCES. He's trying to be relatable to the "new" generation, but it's not funny. It's cringy and it sucks. His books he wrote twenty years ago were plenty good without the refrences to real life. There should be like max two pop culture refrences in an entire book, but this one had literally seven each chapter. From refrencing the book The Giving Tree to different musicians to "I can quote SparkNotes" it was so incredibly frustrating. Just shut up already. This one the worst and I'll leave you to think oh Gods why: GodTok.
