The second book in this series Belladonna faces the eater of the world but only by throwing away everything she is. But this isn't the end of this story.

I first read this book, it must be close to 10 years ago. I was in my late teens and this book changed everything for me, book wise. I loved the setting, the characters, the plot, everything about it. I’ve read it several times now and it’s a book I always think fondly of.

I struggled to stay focused and interested. There was a lot of telling, lectures form characters, little action. Well...I expected this story to be a sexy Paranormal Romance. It's totally not. I grew extremely frustrated with this series. I keep reading hoping as the series continues I will enjoy it

i love the theme of redemption woven through anne bishop's books. even in the darkest pages (and some of them are pretty dark!) there is still a kernel of hope.

Conclusion to the Ephemera series. Not her best, but overall decent fantasy novels.

I liked the first book in this series ok, but couldn't even finish this one. The titular character had a somewhat interesting and likable inner monologue but her interactions with other people were just immature and stupid. I've read other reviews talking about the characters - even those likable in the previous book - acted like spoiled children.

I couldn't make it through this book. I stopped halfway through when Belladonna was stupid and immature again for the millionth time. I just no longer cared what happened to her.

I liked this less than the first book. My main complaint is that the Eater of the World hardly seems a worthy world menace. It may also be that Gloriana/Belladonna and Michael are less empathetic main characters than Sebastian. The whole book felt a bit too cozy and family-type (wholesome?) than one would expect from the premise. The one part where it turns dark is over fairly quickly.

Good read. There are similar elements to the Black Jewels series - strong women, stubborn men, intelligent (opinionated) horses. I have a feeling the third book will be the strongest of this trilogy. This was really a "bridge" book. It laid the foundation for the action and consequences in the last book. All of this is very similar to the Black Jewels story arc.
