Great audiobook but constantly distracted when Hades keeps talking about his penis

It’s the same book as a touch of darkness but from hades PoV and it’s still just as good. Fell in love all over again

Giving this a 3 like I did Touch of Darkness for a lot of the same reasons (go see my review about it). It’s a fun concept, and even at times a fun story, but the world-building and character development were lacking.

One thing that we learn from Hades’ view that we didn’t know from Persephones’ is that technically speaking, they are fated mates. This trope only works when it’s made clear to the audience (through character development and actions) that the two parties would have fallen in love with each other even if they hated been destined to. Unfortunately, Game of Ruin falls short in the same way so many books with dates mates do in that there’s a lot of attraction and lust, but instead of us watching these two fall in love we’re just told that they are in love. I know everyone loves the spice, but I can’t help but feel like if there had been less spice and more character development, I would have had an easier time believing Persephone and Hades could love each other without Fate intervening.

I wasn’t heavily invested in Hades POV until about 25% of the way in, but once I hit that mark it was full steam ahead. I love this retelling, and found Hades to be much more amusing and at some points even human/relatable. And the spice be spice-ing!

Reading this, after a touch of darkness is a must!!  I would not have enjoyed this book as much if I had not already had Persephone POV.  I also would have been so mad if I found out I had missed out on the Hades POV goodness. Getting to see what was going on in his brain and seeing all the stuff he was going through in the moment just makes the entire story feel so much more rounded and fulfilling.

I can’t wait to see how their story continues and continue to get POV’s from both of them.
