A Netgalley advance. A marked improvement over the first volume, as the repercussions of what happened at the private school follow Crystal home and as Charles learns more about his family history.

Charles and Edwin are back with Crystal, who has encouraged Charles to explore more about his family, including meeting his sister. Hana and Co are still trapped in the Neitherlands, wrapping up the story arc from the first volume about the origin story of the boys. Hana is a pretty strong female character and I like her ingenuity and tenacity. At times I wished it was Hana hanging out with the boys and Crystal in the Neitherlands, because sometimes Crystal came off a bit annoying. Honestly, I feel like my interest in the story arc subsided a bit after the excitement of issue six (which is in volume 1). That issue alone was the best of this reboot, with the cats and the girl in the mirror being hands down the coolest characters.
Overall, I enjoyed this reboot of Dead Boy Detectives about as much as the first one, but I didn't find either one exceptional reading. Both times, it felt like there was supposed to be more to it. Perhaps if the run had been longer and had more stories with more in-depth character development, I would continue reading it, but I find it lacks the enduring appeal of Sandman, which is upsetting because these are in my opinion some very interesting characters and they only make less than 20 appearances. I actually read this book last year but had forgotten to review it, and I found myself having to flip back through to refresh myself on some of the story as I had already forgotten it. As with any graphic novel/comic series, it is a quick read and good way to combat boredom, and if you're already into the Sandman multiverse you may as well give it a go. For me, however, the story just didn't match the allure of the cover art, which was ironically the same exact problem I had with the first run of Dead Boy Detectives.

I was entertained here and I found the first volume to be better. This is the last volume and some things did not get resolved. Such is life.
The boys help Rosa in a coma to get back to her body. Also one of them meets his sister who is not a Buddhist monk. I like her character. She is awesome and has no problem with her ghost brother.
This was a fun series. I enjoyed it.
