3.5 stars. The first half of this book started strong, but I thought it dragged in the second half. I liked the short chapters and alternating viewpoints. The characters were well developed; in parts I felt sympathy for them and in others a lot of frustration (especially Solo). This book deals with a number of heavy topics and while it's heartfelt at times, I was ultimately left feeling quite sad when I finished.

I picked this book up on a whim and I can’t even express how much I loved it. Ingrid Persaud tells a beautiful story of love, culture, sexuality, identity and mental health. It’s one of those books where you feel so connected to its protagonists and almost like you’re part of their little family. As a Caribbean, it was so refreshing to read a book that feels like home. The dialect, food and issues brought up which directly affects our communities is articulated beautifully.

I won’t spoil anything but this is probably my favourite book I’ve read so far this year. I laughed, I cried and my heart felt so full by the end. I can’t wait for whatever Ingrid writes next.
