2.5 rounded up. I thought this story had potential but everything seemed to happen way too quickly, but then, it is a novella. I suppose it would have been more to my taste if there were fewer love scenes, more dialogue between the protagonists, and more focus on the other aspects of the plot -- but I realize that's an unfair criticism of an erotic romance! Just not really my thing.

This story was so-so for me.
I couldn't connect with either the heroine or hero, and the story felt rushed and lack-luster.
Although, Artemisia's past and her unapologetic attitude to the decisions she made while leaving in London made her at first interesting and unconventional, most of those qualities didn't matter much in the story. As with Walter's war injury. He was intriguing hero - not only a third son, but a vicar - but I feel any potential his character had was wasted. Speaking of Walter, he annoyed me. I couldn't look past how naïve he seemed when starting the affair with Artemisia. If the secret was out it wasn't he who would suffer the most of the community's wrath. Not to mention, he wasn't overly concerned when she voiced her fears about their relationship. All ended well of course, but still.
I understand novella format has its limits and the story needed to be short and plot resolved quickly, but everything happened so quickly. Most of the qualities that made the characters interesting didn't matter, the villain was weak, and the ending rushed.
Above all, I think all of this wouldn't be so bad if the sex scenes were good. I mean, the hero was man of cloth andthey did have sex in the sacristy , there should be some naughtiness there. But no. The previous book was much hotter.

3.5 stars. I liked the way the hero was a force for good in the lives of his parishioners for the good despite being not conventionally religious at all.
