Would’ve been a 5 if it weren’t for how Wallace handled himself towards the end of the book. I get that he was angry, but his intentions behind contacting her again were selfish. REALLY loved the overall plot though. I wish there were more fandom-related books like this

Honestamente, no tenía ganas de leer este. No me llamaba la atención, no pensé que fuera a gustarme y nada sobre este libro me emocionaba en lo más mínimo. Es más, creo que si me preguntaran por qué decidí leerlo, no tengo respuesta alguna.

Lo que tengo que decir respecto a esta novela es bastante sencillo: La trama es muy buena. Los personajes son muy buenos. La Escritura es muy buena. EL LIBRO ES MUY BUENO. Punto final, ¿entienden?
Eliza and her Monsters es un libro para aquellas criaturas que se esconden en el internet; para los introvertidos y los que tienen amigos por internet, amigos que nunca hemos visto cara a cara pero no dejan de ser nuestros amigos. Si te gustó Fangirl de Rainbow Rowell, amarás este. TANTA APRECIACIÓN AL INTERNET !!! Ugh, love it. Me encantaron las ilustraciones (POR DIOS ESAS ILUSTRACIONES!!), la forma en la que Francesca Zappia narra esta historia y me encantó Eliza. Y la representación de la ansiedad y la depresión es magnífica.
Este no es un libro sobre la ansiedad y la depresión. Es mucho más que eso. Personalmente, me sentí sumamente identificada con Eliza y este libro deberían leerlo todos. En primer lugar, deberían leerlo todos los geeks y nerds, porque la representación es asombrosa y realmente se siente. También deberían leerlo todos aquellos que dicen que las personas que conocés por internet no son realmente tus amigos y que el internet está sobrevalorado y demás. Esto va para ustedes.
¡SE LOS RECOMIENDO AL 10000000%! Una protagonista introvertida pero de lo más interesante, una trama realista, representación sobre la familia, la adolescencia, la vida, tener que elegir una fucking carrera a los 18 años, tener amigos online, fandoms y mucho más. ¡A leerlo he dicho!

Overall, I think I did enjoy this book. It was very creatively written, I enjoyed the characters (most of the time), and I loved the author. But, I did have some issues. Even though I thought it was neat that the author included snippets of the actual comic in the book, it just confused me. I didn't understand the story line or any of the characters in the comics so it was just confusing. Maybe that was the point, but I think it would have been better if there were just the drawings with no text.
Also, I get that Eliza has very bad anxiety and social anxiety, but she annoyed me at times. She seemed a tad over dramatic. For example, for most of the beginning of the book it talks about how obsessed Eliza is with her comic. She can never post late, she can't disappoint her fans, and she works on the comic day and night. The all the sudden, she just can't finish the little bit she has left, she can't look at her phone, her computer. It was so over the top for me and all she kept saying was "I just can't, I just can't". It was so annoying.
The last issue I had were her weird texting buddies, Emmy and Max. I understand they help her with website and help manage it. I get it , I do, but... Why the extreme age gap?! Why would a 22, a 14, an 18 year old have that kind of relationship? It was weird, wasn't a fan.
If you enjoy heart breaking mental health stories, this should be for you. Like I said, I enjoyed it mostly overall. It was cute and funny at times. Other than the issues I had, it was a good read.
