It must be me because this book has a good rating and lots of excellent reviews. But I felt like I was being bombarded with too many stale tropes. Now, I am happy to recycle tropes forever if there are enough elements in the book that feel fresh. And I didn't feel like that was the case here. It didn't capture my attention. And since I didn't need to read it, I set it free to go back to the library so I could move on to the next book.

And I have to say that I didn't appreciate the title. I really didn't want Nelly's song in my head every time I looked at it.

It’s Getting Scot in Here is the first book of a new series, Wild Wicked Highlanders.

In this first book, we meet the three MacTaggert brothers. And when we begin reading it (if you haven’t read the synopsis, that is), we don’t really know which brother is going to be the hero of this story, simply because it’s supposed to be the beginning of Cole’s story (the older brother). But, alas, Cole is not ready yet, and Niall (the younger brother) steps up.

Amelia-Rose is the sweetest girl, with a sharp tongue. An English rose, with thorns. The Scottish brothers are hoping to find only boring, malleable sassenachs, but on the very first night, they get Amelia-Rose. And Niall starts to fall in love in her right away.

Although not long passes between the moment they met and the moment they decide to marry, it’s not an insta-love story. And I’m glad, because I’m not the biggest fan of these stories.

Niall and Amelia-Rose go out, talk a lot, and we get to know them and see their chemistry grow more with each passing day. And more than that, we can see true love developing.

This was the first book I’ve read written by Suzanne Enoch, and it was delightful. A love story than keeps us interested, and engaged with the characters, and that makes us happy there are more books to come with this family.

Three brothers. Scottish Earl for a father. Wealthy English lady for a mother. All three forced into an agreement made between their parents. None want to follow it and are paying the price.

Niall MacTaggert, the youngest of the MacTaggert brothers, has always been the peacemaker in the family. When his oldest brother and heir won’t do his part to save the earldom, Niall steps in. It just so happens that spending time with Amelia-Rose, the woman whom his mother chose for the heir to marry, is more than a little pleasant.

Amelia-Rose doesn’t want to marry a rough, tough highlander, but she doesn’t feel like she has a choice. Her mother wants to elevate herself in any way possible, even at the misery of her own daughter. Although Amelia-Rose begins to enjoy her time with Niall standing in for his brother, she’s not sure if he really likes her or is just playing at it until his brother comes back into the picture.

This story surprised and delighted me. It is actually my first read from Suzanne Enoch and I don’t know why I didn’t find her sooner. My expectation of this story was that of Niall and Amelia-Rose falling in love while she was almost engaged to his brother. I thought that would be the whole story. I couldn’t be more wrong. This story twists and turns as these two learn how to love and the truth of that feeling. That is a big issue in this story, what the true feeling is between these characters. They go through several transitions on their journey which is more complicated than I first anticipated.

If you are looking for a story about a kilt-wearing, kind-hearted highlander and a spunky, witty English lass, It’s Getting Scot in Here is the story for you.

I received It's Getting Scot in Here for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

For all us highlander lovers today, 2-26-19, is a very good day. Suzanne Enoch's It's Getting Scot In Here is out and ready to be devoured. It's Getting Scot is book 1 in the new Wild Wicked Highlander's series. We meet 3 brothers and 1 sister so I'm hoping for at least 3 more books.

The story set up is both a little sad and a hoot. You'll see. Angus MacTaggert, Earl Aldriss, needed a rich wife so he headed to London, why not an English lass? England owed Scotland, so it made sense to Angus. Sassenach Francesca is lovely and already engaged. She and Angus fall instantly in love, betrothed ditched, and boom, it's off to Scotland for the newlyweds. 3 sons and 1 daughter later they become estranged and separate. Francesca pulls one over on Angus before she leaves for London and 17 years later it comes back to haunt him. He's a clodpole so it serves him right. Our story begins with 3 brothers forced to travel to London and dance to their mothers tune, which is the wedding march.

We have brothers Coll, Viscount Glendarril, Aden, and Niall, a most unhappy trio. We're going to explore Niall's journey to love. He's the youngest son, just 24 years old. Niall has no title, not a lot of money, and works the estate alongside his father and brothers. Other than being drop-dead gorgeous there's not much in his favor. He's the peacemaker and fixer of the family. All highlander but with a good head on his shoulders. He's resigned to his marriage fate, knowing a fight can't be won. Their father signed a contract with his wife that she could marry off the boys. The contract details are for you to read about. I'm telling you, Francesca is a wily woman.

Amelia-Rose Hyacinth Baxter is one of those debutants who doesn't take. She's smart, she reads books! She doesn't suffer fools gladly and her direct way of speaking has run off most of the bachelors of the ton. She's a lovely girl, golden hair, a typical English rose, but her inability to simper has become a problem. She's now expected to marry Viscount Glendarril but they don't get along (understatement). Niall, the fixer, escorts Amelia-Rose around and sparks fly. There are problems to be solved and obstacles to be surmounted before the happily ever after. Sometimes duty becomes a pleasure. Sometimes love is most unexpected.

I hope Ms Enoch takes on Aden's story next (hint, hint). I'm intriqued. Right now he's a mystery and I love a good mystery. Happy reading.

I voluntary read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I don't know if authors don't have faith in their readers or what but the constant reminder of why she must marry the way she must marry was grate on the nerves a little.

Highlander MacTaggert brothers have to come down to London after their mothers left 17 years ago to marry before their sisters does- who they also have not seen in 17 years. One of them has to marry the one their mother picks- who she throws at them at the theatre. It doesn't go well for Coll but his brother Niall steps up to help smooth things over. You fall for the guy off the bat in this one- covering for his brother. Amy doesn't want to get married off either but she is falling for Niall also. I really enjoyed this one! The family is perfect and funny- the deer Rory on the stairs is just great.

I honestly breathed right through this book . it’s an adorable story, that starts a series, of three Highland brothers who are forced by their estranged English mother to marry English women before their young sister gets married otherwise they lose their inheritance.

Amelia Rose is meant for Coll, but he doesn’t like her sharp wit and leaves their first meeting five minutes in. Instead, Niall steps in to cover for him and they both fall in love.

It’s super cute and entertaining with the aspects of 1) the Scottish men not wanting to marry English women 2) the Scottish men feeling anger at their mother for abandoning them 3) then there’s the drama with Amelia Rose and her family not wanting her to marry someone who doesn’t have a title.

I love all of the facets of the story. There’s so much folded into it, but in such a crafty way. Suzanne Enoch can write and I definitely recommend this novel and this series.
