This is a dystopian horror novel, set in a world where a pandemic has hit and decimated the population, the military are sending any survivors to contamination camps, and a woman is alone in the woods...

Red is trying to get to her grandmother's house, armed with only an axe in a place full of dangers. As a protagonist, I found her so lovable! She was wary, but kind. Cautious and prepared, so I never felt the urge to scream at her, unlike most protagonists. She had a prosthetic leg, but didn't let it hold her back from anything, including the months-long trek to grandmother, who might not even be alive by the time she arrives.

I read this book very quickly, the story scooped me in with its fast pacing, the jumps from past to present every few chapters, the changes in setting every so often. The pandemic storyline was very interesting, I would honestly read a whole book about where the virus came from, how the American government reacted, how people rebuilt society afterwards (if it stops at all). And if course I'd love to know what that thing was (readers will know what I mean by 'thing', I don't want to spoil).
I highly recommend this one!

Really unique cross between the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale and pandemic, apocalyptic world. Alongside other great apocalyptic works though, this one is a little flat. I would have liked to go more into the background of the sickness infecting the world and also the reasons behind the “Alien”-esque monsters. Adam as a character is also INFURIATING and makes me think I’m reading from the perspective of young teenagers, not adults in their twenties. The “end of the world” plot is a little played out and predictable for me, but it was still enjoyable to read.

The real beauty and strength of the book is in Red’s narrative which is very intense to read and very sad with its details of loss, distrust in humanity, racial violence, and ableism. I love how self-reliant and smart she is about the dangers in the world and doesn’t let having a prosthetic leg hold her back. Her observations are witty, and I like reading about other characters through her eyes.

This is a post apocalypse Little Red Riding Hood retelling. Red is a young woman with a prosthetic limb trying to make it to her grandma's house in the woods while trying to not be picked up by the government and taken to their quarantine camps or to not get killed or hurt by other people or animals on her way. We learn about Red's family and what happened to them and we meet some new characters along the way. I really liked how much Red grew- she was seen as disabled and therefore  less than and was rightfully angry about it. She learned that while she did have limits, she was still able to do more than what people expected of her and how to use that to her advantage.

Ms Henry does it again! Red Riding Hood is just trying to get to grandma's house but many obstacles stand in her way: a pandemic, the loss of society, no easy method of transportation and so much more... Will she ever make it? Or will one of the wolves get her? This is one adventure you won't want to miss!

It was not my first Christina Henry and it will not be my last. In a positive sense it what I expected, a dark/horror story inspired by a fairytale classic. I in particular liked the ending and like with Lost Boy and Alice after starting I didnt stop until I had finished. If you liked the other works of Henry, than you will like this one as well. The book that Henry created once again invited me to escape in to a dark semi fantastical world and I gladly followed the white rabbit...ops wrong book.

I really enjoyed that it was a survival story that focused and stayed with the main theme of survival. Sure the dystopian goverment conspiracies we're mentioned, but Red was not the choosen one who could save the world. I liked the "small" scale. What I didnt really like and why I can Not award 5 stars, were the grenade and the second encounter with Sirois. Okay, the grenade was later on explained and so I accepted it, somewhat. But the Chance that Sirois of all people would find them after fighting the monster is to forced, it does not help that the characters themselves poke fun at it. But I liked the ending evenmore, I had thousand ideas how the story some happy and some not. Also the Idea that Red is the Hunter was quite nice. Even though it was one that was already present in Dropouts.tv Ever After, which I can recommend to anyone who enjoy these dark fairytales.
