Not sure exactly why this was a miss hit for me. Never connected with Mary (plus name just didn’t fit character), didn’t really feel her journey. I also felt that flow of the book got too disjointed at times. Disappointment.

This world. THIS WORLD. The world-building and ambiance in this book are incredible. The vibes are phenomenal. The entire time I'm reading I'm thinking how in the heck did this author think of this? Blew me away. AND THEN SHE INTRODUCED THE MAGIC SYSTEM. Just amazing. The plot is fantastic and the writing is quite good. The only reason this book isn't a perfect 5 for me is because of the characters. I just didn't connect with them. The dialogue is awkward between characters and the internal thoughts are almost too formal to be their own personal thoughts. Nonetheless, I cannot wait for the rest of this series. I just know the next installments will blow me away.
