Hm... This book is... kind of boring. I think this is proof that even if the writing improves, it doesn't really make a story interesting. I liked the characters, but the pacing felt off. Was this better than Shatter Me? In some aspects, yes. In others, (like entertainment), no. Also, apparently this is a Cinderella retelling? That's a bit obvious. I really liked the Persian inspired fantasy world as well. I'm interested to see where this story goes.

honestly really enjoyed it. my first dive into ya romantasy for the citadel book club and i had a blast. though the last chapter or 2 really felt like every fantasy element not previously canon was kinda thrown in there to make the stakes higher. also i absolutely hate a cliff hanger so that was a bummer. i already wanted to continue the series, dont do me like that. it just makes me leave the book with a bitter taste in my mouth smh

I love the writing—it gives it a fairytale feel. I’m not in love with the characters yet and still don’t feel like I really know them, but it was good enough that I’ll read the sequels.

Mixed emotion with this book. I loved it but it kinda lack the excitement I get in turning the pages but that cliffhanger ending was epic! Give me the next book! I like the worldbuilding though but the characters are like meh okay.

Very interesting use of Persian mythology and philosophy to construct a fantasy world with the ideas of castes, fabric arts, and Jinn interwoven. Has some Cinderella vibes. 
I greatly appreciate the lack of spice.

Molt fan d’alguns aspectes. Mola que hi hagi comunicació, que no hi hagi certs elements que queden sense resoldre tot el primer llibre. S’agraeix.
M’agrada que es posi en dubte temes en relació a la monarquia, el sistema de classes, etc. És algo que a vegades es troba a faltar en certs llibres de fantasia. 
Com a “negatiu” és que per un llibre tant llarg, la trama dura 3 dies o així. És a dir, tot és molt intens. Pim pam pum.
Quedo amb ganes de llegir la continuació.
