The mystery is pretty simple but I liked it that the characters believe that almost all things or events have a rational explanation. I liked that although Will is the main Badass in the series, he's not invincible and it's good that Alyss, though a Courier, is not a distressed damsel through and through. She's pretty smart, considering.
One of the things that bummed me out a little is the thing between Will and Alyss. In the previous books, I shipped Evanlyn and Will, but I knew that it's not very realistic in their world. Will has mentioned that Alyss was one of his best friends but not much after that. This book elaborated more on their relationship, but I think I'm not satisfied with that. Also, coffee. Just like in the book where Will escaped from Skandia where I wondered where the Skandians found so much rice that they used it as spare food in an outpost, I found the amount of coffee at the protagonists' disposal a bit too much. I mean, in real life coffee became popular in Europe during the late 16th/ early 17th century. Is that nitpicking, though? *shrug* I'm pretty sure this is a medieval fantasy...

The only reason I'm giving this book three stars is because of the excessive amount of language. I honestly believe the book would have been better without it. Aside from that, I loved the suspense and adventure. This is my second time reading through the series and I really enjoy the books.

I'm not sure what the vibe is, but living in the forest under the illusion of being an ancient evil sorcerer is an iconic choice
