The positive thing is that this is beautifully illustrated. The story is enjoyable and quite rough around the edges. Both main characters are mysterious and i liked their personal development as the story went on. And yes, the spice is nice.
What i did not like and what put me off at the very start of the story is the way Ethan 'takes care' of a beaten up Mike. Taken advantage of right off the bat felt a little unnecessary and even discredits how sweet Ethan really is. The whole plot that happened after that was fine. Better even. But i could not let go of that initial scene.
It's still a beautifully illustrated story with two incredibly handsome men. But the ending left me with a lot of questions. It's that easy to get out crime? Just delete a phonenumber. How convenient.

This was dark and light all at the same time in the emotions department.

Book Review
Title: Midnight Rain by CTK
Genre: Manga, LGBT
Rating: 5 Stars
Midnight Rain was a simple one volume romance manga that had a couple that ended up loving and wouldn’t mind seeing more from. We are follow Ethan who is in crippling debt from his father and has been working for over ten years to pay it off and one day he runs into Mike. The night before he saw Mike getting beaten up from his apartment and ends up asking him how he gets blood out of his clothes and Mike explains.
While Ethan has a cheery personality he is suffering from depression and contemplates suicide until Mike knocks on his door a week after they last spoke after being stabbed. Ethan takes care of Mike and nurses him back to health much to Mike’s distain and Ethan finds himself attracted to the younger man and makes a move which initially doesn’t go over well. However, after Mike storms out he realises how much he has come to like being in Ethan’s apartment and having someone to share the little moments with so he returns and eventually returns Ethan’s affections.
From there they develop as a normal couple would but they have to navigate Ethan’s debt and debt collectors alongside Mike’s less than legal work. That work is what threatens to tear them apart before they have begun but Mike ultimately makes the decision to stay with Ethan. This was very smutty but also very wholesome as Ethan and Mike learn to trust each other and rely on each other. I also liked seeing two older protagonists and the grumpy x sunshine dynamic fit them perfectly.
