It was just awful, the book just fetishized Park for being Asian and the writing for him was awful. It was clear that rainbow Rowell knew nothing about Asian culture and people and how to portray it?them. I first found out this book when I was 13, I sided with the Author believing it was wrong for the book to banned but now I understand why people wanted it banned. It is so harmful in its portrayal of the Asian/ Asian American community. There are so issues with how Rowell described and set up Park's family life along with other things. It's disgusting

This is a sweet story about Eleanor and Park, two 16-year-olds who fall in love. Eleanor however has an abusive home life, which hinders her relationship with Park. The writing is beautiful, however I didn't connect with the book like I thought I would. More specifically I didn't really connect with Eleanor, which was unfortunate. :( I would overall recommend the book though as a quick and easy read.

This is a DNF for me. As much as I really enjoyed fangirl I can’t stand this. I think Rowell could have done way better on the race issue as it comes off pretty racist. I do have the collectors edition which has very pretty art and will be the only reason this book stays in my library. I think Rowell should have just set it to modern day as I don’t really know why she set it in the 80’s. Also it felt a bit young for me. Maybe I’ll try this again later

I listened to Eleanor & Park audiobook, which I would not recommend. This was the first audiobook that I’ve listened to so I don't have anything to compare my experience to, but I felt that the voice actors made the conversations between Eleanor and Park sound cheesy. I was shocked to see that it received the odyssey honor in 2014.
While I did not like the voice actors on the audiobook, I did like the story and I do plan on reading the physical book. I thought that the conversation between Eleanor and Park pushed the story along, and I can see why so many people love the book. It’s a heart warming story about first love, and the characters were realistic. Not everything was sunshine and daisies, the attitudes, relationships and family dynamics were realistic, not perfect. The book does address some heavy topics such as verbal and physical abuse, neglect, identity issues and bullying. While those topics do not consume the book, they are very much present which some readers might not like.
While I could not identify with much of the book like the setting, and many of the issues I still think that it is a pretty good story that is worth reading.
