Finally after promising myself I would pick up this book series for years, I did it. I do not regret it. This book surprised me in many ways and the pictures were one such surprise but I l thoroughly enjoyed this book. If your a fan of magic stories then I would recommend this.

Having seen the movie first and not really loved it, I didn't expect to like this book, but boy was I wrong! This is a wonderfully quirky story about self-discovery, finding one's people, and embracing weirdness. Occasionally hilarious and endlessly witty, the characters are as endearing as they are odd, and are wise beyond their years (wink wink). A quote that stood out to me was: "I wondered how such calm could belong to a world at war."

3.5

This book was a reccomendation from my English teacher, and I've decided it's the kind of book I wouldn't read on my own, but I'm glad that it was reccomended to me. I relate to the main character, and I appreciate the others- personally, my favorite was Millard.
I gave this book a 3.5 because I appreciate it, I just didn't quite vibe with it. That said, I still enjoyed it and will try to read the rest of tge series.
