I found this book quite unique, but this is coming from someone who hasn’t seen or read Strangers on a Train! My first Steve Cavanagh read had me entertained most of the way through.

Multiple POVs, solid twists and turns, overall a decent thriller. There were a few areas where you really have to suspend disbelief to stay on the roller coaster, but I thought it was a page turner. Audiobook narration was good as well!

I think people who love thrillers will enjoy, but there are a few books I would personally recommend before this one if I were making suggestions.

The plot was just kind of far out there. I didn’t hate it, and it had some good twists I didn’t see coming, but it seemed kind of improbable. Like no way this would actually go down like that. I don’t know, I just didn’t love it.

I was intrigued by this book, as it was my first Cavanagh not centred on Eddie Flynn. I thought I might miss those wonderful characters in a standalone story, but actually this had me just as gripped. Eddie Flynn or not, Steve Cavanagh is definitely an auto buy author for me. I'm also going to hope for a crossover between Flynn and Farrow since they're pleasingly set in the same world!

As well as the characters, the real draw with Cavanagh's books is the plotting. It's twisty without being frustrating, tense and violent without going over the top, and so intricate but without being overly confusing. There were so many times during this book that I worked out what was happening, and I'd either be proven wrong or be so completely thrown off course that I changed my mind before realising I was right all along. Guessing what's coming next is slightly pointless but so much fun.

I was a bit frustrated by the end, there was a mini cliffhanger (that I'm sure was thrown in on purpose) when I was expecting a neater ending. But perhaps we're not done with this story. Either way it was very cleverly finished.

More Farrow in future books please!

The summary of this book was what drew me to give this book a chance. The idea of a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours but with murder is a very interesting and captivating plot for a book. It was pretty good and it did not disappoint.

The characters were the stars of this book and the driving force of my enjoyment! I liked the multiple POV chapters following different characters throughout the story. Eventually the characters connection to the main story came together and the twist pertaining to one of the characters I honestly didn't see it coming! After the twist was revealed it was interesting to follow that character & see how their mindset drove them to do what they were doing.

Another thing I enjoyed reading about was how the justice or injustice drive people to do certain things they would never do or think of doing. How even the justice still never comes to some people, it still confuses me how certain influential people can get away with crimes just because they know a person or how the right amount of money to get them out of it. It really made you sympathize with the main character who had lost her husband and daughter in a horrific way. She just wanted justice that she felt was denied her.

A good thriller to throw into my rotation of trying out more thrillers and mysteries. I thought this was a nice quick read and would be interested in reading more of the author's books.
