First word of warning: the translation is not great. Depending on the type of person you are, that may irritate you to the point of distraction and hatred or be endearing and kind of cute/funny.

This is Zafon's first novel and is meant for young adults, but anyone can read it. It's also super short and easy to get through in one sitting. It was only ok because there wasn't much continuity and so many questions were left unanswered. What I liked about it though is that even for a young adult novel it's pretty dark and does not have a particularly happy ending. It can be kind of creepy at times too, especially if you live alone and are reading it at night before going to bed.

All in all, nice quick read that's entertaining but no great work of literature.

A good book to spend some time. Nothing too crazy about it but it's actually entertaining. I found myself wanted to read more until finishing it from time to time but didn't hurry up much.

Short and sweet adventure/ghost story/magical clown man person? I don't think I'll be continuing on, but this was easy to read, straightforward story. We don't get to know the characters because the mystery is in the forefront. Not bad, but not a particularly great story. I do wish we got to know these people more before we went into the mystery. Because as it stands, the characters seem like only a vehicle in which to tell this story. Which is both good and bad. If you're looking for a straightforward mystery, you get that. But there's not much else because it's just sequence after sequence. ok read.
