Good adventure, the main character did most of the work, but that is to be expected I suppose.

I know this book is extremely popular, but it was just not for me. The endless pages of description were so boring, and most of the characters were very unlikeable. Bilbo was really the only one with redeeming characteristics, but he did not make up for the rest of the book. I found myself skimming over pages because I couldn't stand to read another description of a mountain, or a tree, or a piece of rock. Definitely will not be reading the Lord of the Rings series.

Andy Serkis worked magic with Tolkien’s writing.

This book was first read to me by my older brother when I was 10. I now had the priviledge to read it to my son, who is 10. A classic adventure story!

I knew I enjoyed this story, but being read it by Andy Serkis made it even more so! It is a different tone than the rest of these books as it starts as more of a lighthearted and fun adventure story, but by the end it does develop more of the tone that is present in the trilogy. There were way more songs in this than I remember there being!

Can you believe I have never read this book? It was just as I suspected, I enjoyed it.
