If I could go back in time and stop myself from buying this book, I would. I do not know what compelled me to purchase this, but yikes.

If you're into books places in historical settings with elements of magic and old cultures, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. This author put so minimal effort into actually researching the places, people, and cultures of this time, and it shows. It seems safe to assume that the author doesn't know anything about the geography of England, Ireland, and the rest of Europe for that matter. Everything is spoken about in the most vague of terms and descriptions. The Norse people never even mention their own gods by name when talking about their own religion. Oh, and the princess protagonist is somehow the daughter of the King of England, which wasn't a thing at this point in England's history.

This is the laziest book I've ever read, and I've read some doozies. Save yourself.

If you like video games, play Assassin's Creed: Valhalla instead. It's not perfectly accurate or anything, but at least the game knows geography and the Norse people evoke their gods names.

This book was not as good as I wanted it to be.

I felt that most of the descriptions were more longwinded than they needed to be. I also thought that Torben spends way too much time
Spoiler talking about how he loved Alette and how he would kill any other guy who hurt her or so much as looked at her.

It wasn’t terrible, kinda boring, would’ve been better if there wasn’t a sequel

Got up until Chapter 4 and there wasn’t really much happening and so unfortunately, I gave up on this book at that point. As much as background information and setting is important, it should be written in an interesting manner. Maybe I’ll come back to finish it some other time

The story itself was fine, but the amount of grammatical errors in this book was painful. I also found that Lidia and Lizzie/Lizzy were often confused by the author.

I want to start by saying that I am interested in continuing this series (whenever that may be), simply to know what happens next. That being said, it didn’t hold my interest enough for me to want to reread this book any time soon. I liked that it was a quick and easy read, and the plot was interesting enough. A lot of the plot felt too smooth for my taste, specifically with the actions that Torben and Allete take throughout the book. For example, Torben and his kinsman, Brant, are able to enter the castle and become the guards of Allete while wearing magical (and very convenient) disguises. The plot armor is quite strong with the main characters, haha. Now, because it is the first in a series, there’s potential for growth and improvement in the characters and the series as a whole. So, who knows, my opinion might change as I read more of the series.
