I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book, and now that I've finished it I feel like I'm still left with questions. Because there were so many "main characters", I don't feel like the backstory of each character was fleshed out enough.
Althea, Viola, Lillian, and Joe definitely have a complicated sibling relationship as each deals with their own issues from their childhoods to their adult lives. The family is suddenly pulled back together when Althea and her husband, Proctor, are arrested for fraud and need caretakers for their twin teenage daughters, Kim and Baby Vi. We hear from each of the siblings, as well as Proctor, and gain insight into the family's past.
