Not my usual cup of tea but it was really interesting. I enjoyed it.

Some of these stories were repeats from another book, but this one was written first so I can’t make that a complaint about this book.

this was a christmas present many years ago that i honestly forgot about - it hadnt looked particularly interesting at the time. however in my effort to read every book i own its time has finally come, particularly as grann has gained some notoriety for his other works.
in total i’d say it’s a good anthology of interesting investigative pieces, several of which i will likely continue to think about, but ultimately i’d say it’s reminiscent of a true crime era gone by. or perhaps i’ve just lost patience with the genre.

This is an excellent collection of biographical essays! I especially loved how the author was able to neutrally portray each person. From killers to genuinely good men, there was very little difference in the narrative tone. It allows the reader to develop their own emotions rather than connecting solely with the authors biased POV
