I think there were some good choices made in this book, but I don't think it delivered the hype (for me personally). It's more of a light fantasy ya novel that is rather soft in its writing. I do wish the magic was more complicated or was explained in more detail. The romances are not necessarily rushed, but develop within the four hundred pages of the book. A good choice for high school or light fantasy readers.

I don't mind some YA occasionally but I do struggle when the tone is quite young, and this one just read too juvenile for me. I also didn't enjoy Rose's chapters which is unfortunate as half the book is about her.
