Pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book as WWII historical fiction can be hit or miss for me. I was a little worried in the beginning when we were first introduced to the main character, Emmy, that I would find her annoying (which I did, but it was necessary), but I was quickly absorbed into the story and I just had to keep reading to find out what happened! I did get overly frustrated with Emmy at some points, and part three written in the journal entries wasn't my favorite, so couldn't be a full 5 stars. However, I understand why Susan Meissner is so popular for historical fiction - I will have to pick up more of her work!
