When I started this book, I was struck by how dark it was, and how poorly Pete was doing. When we left him in "Silent City" it seemed like he was, if not doing well, then at least getting his shit together. Nope.

I liked "Down the Darkest Street" even more than "Silent City" partly it did surprise me a few times. I won't give any more examples, as I hope everyone goes out and reads it for themselves.

I appreciated seeing Pete's character develop, and getting more insight into some of the other characters that we met in the first book. You can definitely read this one without having read "Silent City." The recap is just enough to bring you up to speed without getting bogged down with what happened previously.

Full disclosure: I am friends with the author, but there's no way I'm telling anyone I liked a book if I didn't :-D

Still a great series! I enjoyed the greater focus on the characters. It did fall a bit into some damsel in distress cliches but overall I've enjoyed it and look forward to the next ones.
