Never really recaptured the narrative fire of the introductory chapter, which was a shame. Very informative, formulaic

Really enjoyed this! Loved learning about all these fascinating medieval women and how complex and diverse their lives were. Challenges your preconceived notions on the agency that medieval women had, and how medieval people lived at large - humans is the same!

I tried really hard with this one because on the face of it the topic is right up my street! I just found the barrier for entry pretty high - I know very little about medieval history, and I needed a lot more of the content to be contextualised than it actually was. Ramirez frequently threw out comparisons and throwaway remarks that it made it clear I was supposed to understand a historical context that I just didn't know. It's a shame, because I did find it interesting, but the text meandered and I just felt lost a lot of the time.
