Highly informative, meticulously formatted, and with an excellent eye for vocabulary, Washington’s book was a very enriching read about a time in American life I know woefully little about. Reading this after some quick hit poetry and novels was a challenge—despite the book’s size, it’s a DENSE read, but a rewarding one that’ll shape my future book selections, I imagine.
The only cons to it are that it’s a little textbooky (understandable), and it very occasionally feels like Washington is reaching for her point.
