Came across this story about a very young Eugenides by chance when looking to see if there was any recent news about the fifth book in The Queen's Thief series. It'll only mean something to those who've already read Megan Whalen Turner's books, I think.

Short and sweet insight into Gen's youth and his ambition to inherit the title of The King's Thief.

One thousand years before this story takes place, a person could become the King's Thief by stealing a stone called Hamiathes' Gift (if he or she didn't die in the process). ...

It's sweet to see a juvenile Gen in one of his first cheeky exploits, but I do wish a little more had been revealed about his family and that it had been written with a little more grace.
