Not gonna lie, I've never really seen myself as a romance reader. And my past attempts at reading Nicholas Sparks were failed attempts mostly because I think I couldn't connect well enough.
But after seeing the movie version and falling in love, I decided to take a chance and try reading his work again. I was pleasantly surprised. I wanted to give it 4 stars but in the end a 5 just felt right. I flew through the book and even though I knew the basic premise of the book, it articulated things better than the movie could. The plot and characters were so believable and it instilled a new-found belief of hope and trust, how fragile those things are, and how important. Definitely liked this one a lot, and will be referring it to my friends.

This is one of my favourite Nicholas Sparks novels. Katie is trying to escape her past and build a new life in Southport, where she meets Alex, a widow with two young children. I love the suspense in the novel and the romance is very sweet. Sparks does a great job of depicting small town life - I would love to live in a town such as this! The storyline with Jo was interesting (if a little hard to believe) but made for an overall sweet ending to the novel.

I reread this in anticipation of seeing the movie in theatres. As usual, I found the book to be much better than the movie adaptation. While I enjoyed the adaptation, I found that too much was changed (namely the confrontation scene at the end - which I didn't think necessary). Still a good movie, and is interesting to compare to the novel!

I thought it was a great book, I got the book based on the setting because I go there a lot and my grandparents live near there. I love the whole plot and thought it was overall amazing!
