3.75 rounded up to 4. Representative Omar’s book tells her story in a straight-forward manner while keeping her emotional distance - that’s just her personality! And it’s gotten her where she is today. This book was no frills, no drama, no massive insight into Omar's personal life-just her true journey. Her mother passed away when she was two, she escaped the Somali Civl War in 1995, she's dealt with bullies her entire life. And she is the perfect reminder that America SHOULD be made up of people from all over world with completely different stories, therefore all types of people should be represented in Congress.
“No leader in a true democracy can promise that the election is in the bag.”
“I didn’t feel inferior to anyone in the State House. Having been elected by the people, I had just as much right as anyone else to be there.”
“My strength doesn’t come from a lack of fear, but from an overwhelming sense of moral outrage.”

Great read about Ilhan overcoming many challenges including becoming a refugee and fleeing her home country of Somalia during a civil war, and becoming an American citizen. It follows her journey of eventually getting elected as a US representative for Minnesota. Through her story, it’s easy to see that she listens to the needs and advocates for her constituents (even the ones that didn’t vote for her.) She truly represents the American people.

Omar's story and personal mission are great. The writing is not phenomenal but it's also above average and richly descriptive.
