War With the Newts is a science fiction story in which the main character is the self-destructive nature of humanity itself. The dark humour in the book is a perfect fit for the way in which the author highlights the madness of human politics and progress. Written at a time when the world was barreling towards the Second World War, the author makes clear comparisons to contemporary world events which still have relevance even in our modern world.

This is a great piece of science-fiction, ridiculing humanity. And I am totally here for it.

I thought there's going to be more character-oriented plot and to be honest it was more like a chronicle. I had to get used to it and I did find myself missing some of the character, not getting enough of them, but it's fine.
Sometimes there were sexist or racist sounding remarks, but I do blame it on the fact, that Capek was just potraying a world and not really making it up, unfortunately. But sometimes it does leave an unpleasant taste.

Over all I really, really like it! I am super happy I read this classic.
