Would have been a 5 if the characters grew more! Towards the end
Spoiler I would have loved to see both the girls grow- emira to challenge herself and for alix to not be such a crazy white woman. I can’t get over how she found out about the letter actually being lost in high school but still went along with demonizing Kelley.
Spoiler aside from that the writing was great, I hated the characters when they were written to be hated (mark of a good writer ha) and the book was fast paced to keep me through! Also the kids were so cute!
Spoilertoo bad the mom still treats the curious child like a nuisance  at the end. I would love a kid like that

Emira embodies all I want to be in life and is completely relatable in trying to figure out life in your mid to late 20s. Alix, on the other hand, is an annoyance I cannot stand and my life would be better off without her.
