I love the Murderbot Diaries, but this one fell a little flat for me. I think what I enjoyed most was how... tender(?) Murderbot is becoming. But I just felt like the story didn't go anywhere?

Best line, "It wasn’t dead, it was just catastrophically damaged. (I know, who isn’t?)”

I don't know if this is intended to end the series, but it makes for a great end to it. It had been a while since I read the other books and stories in this series so I decided to do a reread before picking this one up and I'm not sure that it was really necessary, but it made me appreciate the broader character arc of Murderbot. Like the rest of the series, it's got good action, lovable characters, a tasty dose of social critique, and a lot to laugh about. It also ends very well, with everyone pointed in a good direction.

Ah it is unfortunate that in a previous review I said that I would probably always rate these books 5 stars, but alas, this one only gets 4.

Murderbot was way more unhinged in this one than it other ones which like totally ok, but I found myself feeling frustrated by the constant redactions even though I know it’s literally the point but it just wasn’t for me. Then when we finally figure out what is being redacted, I was like oh, that’s it? Like it was anticlimactic.

Then also the plot of this one was more difficult for me to follow but that could also be because I did this as an audiobook.

But since it’s Murderbot still 4 stars lol
