This book was on the reading list for The Last Podcast on the Left. I learned quite a bit about Rodney Alcala from that episode, but this book was exceptionally informative. Until recently, I didn't know a lot about Alcala, other than he appeared on a dating game show and the girl did not end up going out with him. It's nice to see someone that pays attention to their red flag radar. This guy was a real piece of work. He had been in trouble several times, and somehow managed to slip around and get up to shenanagins unhindered. It is amazing to me how people slip through the cracks and manage to wreck so many people's lives. This guy had some real audacity. At the time of this writing, he was still alive on Death Row, but has since died. No great loss there.

This book was well written and well researched. However, it was extremely repetitive which made reading parts of it annoyingly impossible to fully get through.

While I thought the book was researched well and I did enjoy the inclusion of other murders that were happening at the time. I thought the telling of the story was disjointed, The timeline jumps around and was hard to follow.  I did listen to audiobook so not sure if it would have been better as an eye read book.  Also a big portion of the book was repetitive.. covering same information each time a new trial was granted on appeal.

Not sure why this evil man has the nick-name the Dating Game killer - granted, he WAS on an episode of the Dating Game, none of his kills have anything to do with the dating game. I did enjoy the writing in this novel, it kept things moving along. I also liked that the author focused a lot on the victims, we learned quite a bit about them during the novel. I did do a google check, and the evil man is now dead - though the cause was natural - he just kept hangin' on through multiple death penalty verdicts

Stella Sands did a terrific job with this one. I really liked her writing style & bite sized chapters. I enjoyed the short chapters a lot, I felt as though I wasn’t being bombarded with information. I really learned about Rodney Alcala and I learned a lot about what was happening in the world while he was committing his crimes.

The ending was a little long winded but over all I enjoyed this book.

I would say that this is probably the definitive book to read if you want to learn about Rodney Alcala. I knew of him and his crimes before reading this, but not to the extent that this book provided. I enjoyed that the author put a lot in from the perspective of the family members of the victims and really allowed readers to learn about them and who they were as individuals. This is very interesting for any true crime reader!
